Make A Child Smile was founded by Alexandra Bakker.  The organization provides emotional and financial support to families whose children suffer from chronic or life-threatening illnesses and also gives those who visit the MACS website the opportuity to participate by sending mail to children.

The Rainbow Of Heroes Walk is a celebration, reunion, and fundraising event for the Duke Pediatric Blood and Marrow Transplant (PBMT) Family Support Program.  On the first Saturday in May, they walk together as a community.  Along the way, as they carry balloons with patients' names on them, people stop, talk together, and enjoy each other.  Finally, they release the balloons.  In attendance are familes, patients, nurses, therapists, doctors, volunteers and supporters.
