Hearts-In-Motion is a program designed and developed for churches, daycare
centers, preschools and elementary schools. Through the use of hands-on activities, literacy and physical
exercise, children will begin to grasp the understanding of how emotions affect them physically and mentally, especially when
trying to cope with grief and loss, chronic illnesses, domestic violence or changes in their home environment.
*
Our
hands-on activities are lesson plans that use colors to help a child identify their emotions. Children will learn how
to connect their feelings to colors. It is our hope that teachers and educators will use a rainbow-of-color to help
children understand the concept that it takes a combination of colors to make something beautiful.
*
By reading stories such as In Mamma’s
Heart, children will begin to process
their feelings and emotions through the use of literacy. They will discover a natural way to cope with grief and loss
when they hear Mamma explain to her puppies about the gift of love and the lasting comfort it brings. Literacy helps
children understand, connect and relate to sensitive topics that are otherwise difficult to talk about on their
own.
*
The physical exercise part of
the program will consist of collecting pledges for a child to participate in the run-a-thon. Teachers and educators
will determine the distance the children will run, while at the same time, will use the speed of running to help children
connect physical movement to the concept of how emotions affect the way they move. We encourage starting out with
the children running slow and help them connect the feeling of tired, sad or sick to the body movement.
